Widespread summer special prices were offered on the French uncoated woodfree paper market in August. Buyers would like to see these promotions stick around as permanently low prices in September.
Demand remains weak to very weak on France's woodfree paper market. The woodfree uncoated paper business continues to experience a structural downsizing process. The summer lull in the holiday month of August is now exacerbating matters.
Paper supply is more than sufficient compared with demand, something that is manifesting itself in the form of price cuts described as summer discounts over the holidays. All market observers said that these discounts were still available to date; manufacturers' attempts to wipe them out in September had partly been penalised with orders being placed elsewhere. As August drew to a close, quite a few market observers felt that all discounted prices would be carried forward from August into September.
