Manufacturers did not succeed in raising French woodfree uncoated paper prices, as they had hoped, in October. However, demand for uncoated fine paper was not even described as universally weak. A few manufacturers report rather thin ordering, but others describe business as not bad right now. Heated competition among producers for available orders has at least so far proven the stumbling block to higher prices. Quite a few market players feel that it is unlikely that prices will rise after all, not least because a few prices had now been seen to fall rather than increase.
