CVB parts with specialty paper mill in Raon l’Étape

The mill in Raon l'Étape makes special lightweight packaging papers
05 Jul 2021 −

In 2018, recycling company CVB entered the paper market by buying the specialty paper mill in Raon l'Étape, France. The project was apparently not as fruitful as expected: The company now resold the mill.

Dutch recycling company CVB Ecologistics has sold its specialty paper mill in Raon l'Étape, which it acquired only three years eralier. The mill, which trades under the name of Raon Circular Regeneration (RCR), was taken over on 1 July by RCR's commercial director Richard Getkate, CVB has announced.

RCR produces lightweight specialty paper for the packaging market, mainly for the food segment, with grammages ranging from 18-50 g. CVB put the paper machine's capacity at around 50,000 tpy. The site's portfolio includes, amongst others, food wrapping paper and takeout bags.

CVB explained that the paper mill was not part of its recycling core business, which is why it decided to sell it. The Durch company will retain exclusivity for the deliveries of the required recovered paper until at least 2022.

CVB had acquired the specialty paper mill in mid-2018, making its first foray into paper production. At the time, the mill was in liquidation. A liquidation would have meant that CVB would have lost an important customer, as the paper mill was able to process difficult-to-recycle grades of recovered paper such as milk cartons and liquid packaging supplied by CVB. The firm therefore decided at the time to become its own customer and acquire the site.

CVB Ecologistics specialises primarily in the recycling of recovered paper and plastic waste, but also recycles textiles. The company has ten processing plants in Belgium, the Netherlands and England. It has the capacity to handle around 600,000 tpy of recovered paper annually, a spokesman told EUWID.
