Norpac filed a petition last year to impose antidumping and countervailing duties on Canadian imports of certain grades of uncoated groundwood paper. Now, the company feels that market conditions are improving and announces the restart of its PM 1.
US paper manufacturer The North Pacific Paper Company (Norpac) is starting to feel the effects of the preliminary duties imposed on uncoated mechanical paper imports from Canada into the USA. The company said that thanks to the measures, which restored a level playing field, it was now able to restart imited operations at its PM 1 at the Longview mill and hire 50 new employees. With the recommissioning, the manufacturer wants to meet growing demand.
In August last year, Norpac had announced it would shut down one of its three machines for uncoated mechanical paper from October 2017 in response to what it said were dumped and subsidized paper imports from Canada. According to a local newspaper at the time, the PM affected can produce newsprint with a capacity of 250,000 tpy.
