13 Jul 2021 −

Engineering companies Voith and Bellmer will support Norske Skog's conversion plans at the Golbey and Bruck mills.

Norske Skog has commissioned Voith to convert the newsprint machine PM 1 at its Golbey mill in France to the production of recycled corrugate case material. In addition to the extensive rebuild of the PM 1, Voith will also supply a new stock preparation system and efficiency-enhancing services, the company announced. The rebuilt machine will have a wire width of 9,300 mm and a capacity to produce up to 550,000 tpy of lightweight recycled containerboard in basis weights ranging from 70 to 135 g/m2. Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023.

Norske Skog will invest a total of €250m in the Golbey PM 1 conversion project. A key factor in winning the order was the ECA-covered financing support offered by Voith, which helps to minimise risk and provide credit protection, Voith said.

Another conversion project is to be executed at Norske Skog's Bruck mill in Austria. Here, Norske Skog will upgrade and convert the 125,000 tpy newsprint machine PM 3 to produce 210,000 tpy of RCCM. The project has been awarded to Germany's paper technology company Bellmer.

Start-up of the rebuilt PM 3 is scheduled for the fourth quarter 2022.
