Prices for mixed RCP collapse in the UK in February

The effects of China's ban on importing mixed paper and limited import quotas for all other types of recovered paper finally became fully apparent on the British market in February.

Prices for mixed paper are falling week after week or even day after day and have in some cases reached negative territory. "Right now we are seeing two separate markets emerge for mixed paper: one for MRF material from commingled collections and one for material from separate kerbside paper collections," one expert remarked.

China stopped accepting mixed paper in the middle of last year and other markets in Europe and Asia that had offered alternatives last year have become saturated.
