Newsprint and magazine paper manufacturer Resolute Forest Products (RFP) announced the permanent closure of its previously idled pulp and paper mill in Fort Frances, Ontario. The company is currently exploring opportunities to continue operation of the biomass boiler and electricity-producing steam turbine in Fort Frances.

The mill houses a 200,000 tpy kraft pulp line and two paper machines (PM 5 and PM 7) with a combined capacity of approx. 100,000 tpy of commercial printing papers. The pulp line and the PM 5 were idled in November 2012 and the PM 7 in December 2013. The closure will affect about 200 staff.

Resolute is currently exploring opportunities to continue to operate the biomass boiler and electricity-producing steam turbine.
