The German corrugated board industry has been recording volume growth in the January-October period 2020 and is optimistic about 2021.

According to the association of the German corrugated board manufacturing industry (VDW), its member companies have so far achieved stable year-on-year sales volumes. In the January-October period, the companies have sold 6.7 billion m² of corrugated board, which is around 40 million m² more than in the same period in 2019.

For 2021, the VDW expects volumes to grow again by around 1.0 per cent. However, the development from quarter to quarter will be varied: The VDW expects growth of 0.5 per cent and 1.9 per cent for Q1 and Q2 2021, respectively, while the second half-year will see a slight decline (Q3: -0.5 per cent and Q4: -0.9 per cent).
