Swedish packaging paper and board producer Billerud Korsnäs has simplified its name. In a move to cater to its international customers, the group reports that it has changed its name to Billerud on 12 October, as announced earlier this year.

Billerud explained that the change was connected to its expansion into North America and its intention to drive growth in global markets. "The name change is a natural step on our strategic journey," said Christoph Michalski, President and CEO at Billerud.

Only recently, Billerud completed the takeover of US company Verso Corporation and announced investments in the country. The group plans to convert two paper lines at the Escanaba mill in Michigan, which currently produces 730,000 tpy of graphic and specialty paper, to cartonboard production, with the first PM expected to come online in 2025 and the second in 2029. Their capacity will be 1.1 million t of fresh fibre board.

Billerud is based in Sweden and now has nine manufacturing sites in Sweden, Finland and the US. The group employs around 5,800 people.
