DS Smith starts closure of Louth plant

DS Smith Packaging has provided more details on the closure of the Louth site, affecting 70 staff.

According to a spokesperson, the closure of the plant is a phased process that started on 29 February and will be concluded in August. The majority of the 70 staff were leaving at the end of February, with a skeleton crew in place until August.

DS Smith announced: "A period of collective consultation has been undertaken with the Trade Union and Employee Representatives at our Sheetfeeding site in Louth. Unfortunately, there has been no viable alternative business proposals presented during this process, and we have therefore taken the difficult decision to proceed with the proposal to close the site."

According to information provided earlier, the Louth plant’s activities will be consolidated at DS Smith's Blunham site, where a 2.8 metre wide corrugator and high-tech material handling equipment were installed in 2015.
