Saica starts construction of new corrugated board plant in Barcelona

Work has begun on Saica Group’s new corrugated board factory in Barcelona, which will start operating in the spring of 2025. Plans for the project, which involves an investment of more than €100m, were announced in the summer.

Located in the municipality of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, the plant will combine the operations currently carried out at Saica Pack El Prat and Saica Pack Barcelona and aims to increase the current joint production of the two factories by up to 45 per cent. The new plant will be equipped with the latest technology, seamlessly combining flexography and offset processes.

Saica acquired the land where the new plant is being built in 2010 and built and opened a finished product warehouse in 2018.

The Saica Pack El Prat and Saica Pack Barcelona plants will continue to operate until the new facility opens. Subsequently, the plants will gradually transfer their production to the new facility, ensuring seamless continuity of service. The workers at both plants (194 and 100 workers respectively) will be offered the opportunity to transfer.

Saica Group's Chairman, Ramón Alejandro, stressed that "this investment will allow us to have the latest digital technology. We will be able to increase our production capacity and also improve the service we provide to our customers".
