Portuguese fine and tissue paper company The Navigator Company is building a moulded fibre packaging plant at the company's Cacia pulp mill complex in Aveiro. The investment is part of Navigator's packaging business strategy.
The investment project continues to progress as planned with more than 50 per cent of the project already completed, Navigator informed when presenting its Q2 and H1 2023 results.. Production is planned to to start up in the first half of 2024.
The moulded fibre packaging will be produced from eucalyptus fibre and production will be integrated into the Aveiro industrial site. Navigator puts the initial production capacity of the plant at 100 million units, and the plant and is designed to enable capacity increases in subsequent years.
The moulded fibre packaging is designed to substitute plastic packaging in the food service and food packaging market. According to Navigator, one of the great challenges in this project has to do with developing biodegradable barrier properties.
