Prices of all printing and writing paper grades rose at the beginning of the year in the UK, with newsprint and SC paper prices in particular achieving considerable mark-ups.
Negotiations on delivery and price conditions for the new year were quickly completed on the UK market for newsprint. The vast majority of those surveyed on the market said that contracts had been signed before Christmas in almost all cases.
Talks resulted in price increases that came fairly close to the demands of the paper producers. Mark-ups for improved newsprint were somewhat larger than those for standard grades. Most of the contracts signed on the UK market are valid for six months.
Contracts in the magazine paper segment have been concluded at higher prices as well, with price validity terms ranging between three to six months.
