German corrugated board market remains strong with high demand for corrugated base papers

14 Mar 2018 −

There have been no signs of any significant dent in demand on the German recycled containerboard market in mid-March.

The corrugated board market is reportedly still vigorous and paper demand is accordingly high. Nevertheless, the market for recycled corrugated case material was no longer as overheated as it had been in the previous months. Converters report things have improved slightly, which they attribute to declining paper exports.

What remains is still very "emotionally guided negotiations" between manufacturers and converters. Some converters are struggling to explain why new paper prices are rising in spite of the excessive drop in recovered paper prices, and have decided to pass on the letters of the paper industry directly to their own customers, so as not to lose credibility themselves.
