VPK Packaging to acquire Solidpack

VPK Packaging will expand and add 65,000 tpy of solid board packaging to its capacities. The group plans to take over Dutch company Solidpack.

Belgian VPK Packaging Group has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Solidpack. The companies did not disclose the transaction price.

Solidpack is a Dutch manufacturer of solid board packaging operating one site in Loenen. The company has 175 employees and can produce 65,000 tpy of packaging. Its turnover is said to exceed €50m.Core markets are in the meat, fish and flower industries.

VPK said that with this move it would further expand its solid board segment known under the brand name Smart Packaging Solutions to respond to the increased market requirements for this product. The joined forces also make for strong complementarity. "We complement each other very well. Our customers are predominantly located close to home, Solidpack has a strong portfolio in overseas exports.", said Johan De Neef, BU Manager at Smart Packaging Solution.

Smart Packaging Solutions is housed at VPK's facilities in Oudegem and has a second location in Meer, near the Dutch border. With 250 employees, Smart Packaging Solutions produces about 85,000 tons of packaging per year. This makes for a turnover of 70 million euros, which is mainly achieved in sectors such as vegetables, meat and chicken.
